Write a Book Project 2016
St. Cillian's N.S. was teamed with St. Thomas' Senior School as part of the Write a Book Project 2016. The children used a variety of writing genres to create a wonderful book to share with children their own age. These included adventure, action, horror, suspense and humour. We received wonderful feedback from St. Thomas' SNS. They said it must have taken us a lot of time and effort. Over the last week, our Write a Book will visit the homes of all the senior room children.
School TourOn Thursday our whole school had their annual school tour and what an adventure it was! We went on the Luas into town. We walked to Tara Street station where we got the Dart to Bray. The Dart was a great adventure!
When we arrived in Bray we had quick snack along the seafront and then it was time for the highlight - Sea Life! We had a guided tour with Dave who told us all about the different fish, sharks etc. We got to touch starfish, create "energy " to attract sting ray and we even spotted Nemo and Dory.
After Sea Life we had lunch along the seafront and then it was time to make our way back to school. There were a few tired bodies on the way home. A wonderful time was had by all!
Larch Hill with Ms. BrowneWow! This week began with yet another trip for 2nd to 6th Classes! This time we had an adventure up to Larch Hill, headquarters of Scouting Ireland with Ms. Browne and fellow Scout Leader, Deirdre. We had an invigilating ceremony to begin and we were all present with neckerchiefs from Ms. Browne. Each neckerchief had a story and piece of history attached to them which was wonderful. Afterwards the children made their way to the Ice House and along the way Deirdre identified the many trees in the woods and explained a little about each. Though the weather was wet, spirits remained high and we all participated in every aspect of the day. Next we made smores with the help of Louise, who is a past pupil of St. Cillian's and an accomplished Scout. Around the camp fire, we baked our food while Ms. Browne and Deirdre showed us how to erect a tent. We would like to say a massive thank you to Ms. Browne, Deirdre and Louise for all their knowledge and guidance on the day.

The Good Dinosaur at the Irish Film InstituteChildren from 1st Class to 6th Class had a special treat yesterday as we went to the premiere of the Good Dinosaur. We were among the first children in Ireland to see the movie as it is only on general release on the 27th November. Everyone enjoyed the cinema and we had a few tissue moments when the movie got sad! We are glad to report it did have a happy ending! After the movie, we all walked to Trinity College to have our lunch. Thank goodness the rain stayed away until the very end of our day. Thanks to Mr. Gubbins and Jillian for coming with us yesterday.
